H.R. 418 "Real ID"
The passage of H.R. 418, was a significant legislative victory. The bill included several provisions that enhanced the nation's security. For the first time since 9-11, the Congress took action to require states to better regulate the issuance of drivers licenses and enhanced ID security standards. It was this provision that gave the legislation the name "Real ID." The bill also included provisions targeting foreign nationals with terrorist ties from abusing US asylum laws, and made it easier to remove or deny entry to the US's enemies. H.R. 418 also provided for the timely building of a border fence in the San Diego area.
Note: The ID provisions sparked considerable controversy because people generally don't like the idea of having to have another ID, a so called "national ID" card. That's understandable. We do not want the government to know any more about us than what is absolutely necessary too. Unfortunately, because of the lack of enforcement of our immigration laws over the past 40 years, this legislation was necessary to help weed out the millions of criminal aliens (and terrorists) now living illegally in our communities.

PROPOSED FEDERAL LEGISLATION DURING PAST SESSIONS OF CONGRESS
S. 1348 Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (May,2007) [The only comprehensive thing about this bill is that it is a comprehensive giveaway! It gives Amnesty and billions of your money to millions of illegal aliens. After reading some of the bill (it's hundreds of pages long) I found so many taxpayer funded giveaways to illegals, I'm surprised the US Senate didn't give them title to the Statue of Liberty too. And the enforcement aspect is absurd, since the federal government isn't enforcing the laws already on the books. And it appears that the bill defines illegals as "legal residents" [what a transformation!] so how will any enforcement be carried out since at the stroke of a pen, the enforcement provisions won't apply to anyone? This is a very complex bill that would take a lawyer weeks to study. But I have read enough to know this bill stinks worse than week old dead fish on a hot day. 6/28/07 Update: Bill dead (Good)
HR 4313 - The TRUE Enforcement Act and Border Security Act of 2005
We urge all OJJPAC supporters to join the 9/11 Families for a Secure America in support H.R. 4313 - The TRUE Enforcement Act and Border Security Act of 2005. A big advantage to H.R. 4313 is that it does not contain any amnesty/guest-worker schemes. H.R. 4313's provisions focus on enforcement and border security, which must be the first step in addressing the country's immigration and security problems.
For example, H.R. 4313 addresses the Visa Waiver Program, the tracking of aliens temporarily admitted into the US. The government currently has no database to identify which aliens overstay their visa's. This is an issue of importance to the 9-11 Families for a Secure America because some of the terrorist who attacked the WTC were in the US on expired visas. H.R. 4313 is not a cure-all for our national security ills but it is a move in the right direction.
H.R. 4437- Sensenbrenner/King Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005
We urge all OJJPAC supporters to support H.R. 4437. The bill, known as the Sensenbrenner/King Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act, has several helpful immigration and security enforcement provisions. H.R. 4437 authorizes the construction of nearly 700 miles of border fencing along our southwest border. It also creates a new electronic employment verification system, to help employers verify the eligibility of employees to work in the US. The bill also repeals the controversial “visa lottery” program. H.R. 4437 also reaffirms the inherent authority of state and local law enforcement agencies to assist in the enforcement of US immigration laws. The bill also adds penalties for certain immigration-related crimes, including alien smuggling and passport fraud. Update: Bill killed.

OJJPAC ACTION ALERT! |
Senate Democrats block citizenship status question on 2010 census form A proposed amendment by U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) to exclude illegal immigrants from being included in the population counts that decide congressional redistricting died after Senate Democrat's killed it in a 60-39 procedural vote. States like Ohio will now likely loose one or more congressional districts, which will reduce Ohio's influence in Washington D.C., and Ohio's influence in presidential elections. In a perverse reality, states like California which have millions of illegal aliens, will now be able to add one or more new congressional districts, adding to it's already significant influence in national elections. Another "Convicts running the Prisons" example. |

The Hope Act? OJJPAC hopes not. Some members of Congress hope they can help illegal aliens colonize of the US by funding the National Council of La Raza with millions of your dollars. Congressman Ruben Hinojosa's (D-TX) bill, H.R. 1999, would give $5 million of your tax dollars to La Raza for 2008; $10 million every year after that--apparently forever. This bill is a give-away to La Raza and its illegal alien client base but bad for American tax payers. Hopefully this bill which was introduced last April, will continue to go nowhere.
